More than 500 transactions? Contact us for a tailored RMB quote. Before engagement, we confirm how transactions are counted, your tax registrations, filing obligations and whether the quoted service fee includes applicable tax. Company taxes themselves are separate from our service fee.

Know what is included

We review your business activity and records, agree the accounting scope and identify the filings relevant to your company. Our team helps you understand missing documents and upcoming obligations, so routine compliance becomes easier to manage.

Keep special work clearly scoped

Historical account clean-up, statutory audits, payroll, transfer pricing, specialist tax advice and bank remittance work may require a separate scope and quote. Annual work and filing responsibilities are confirmed in your engagement. You approve any additional work before it begins.

A practical monthly rhythm

  1. Share your records. Provide bank statements, sales and purchase invoices, expense evidence and relevant contracts.
  2. Resolve questions. We review records with you and clarify missing information before the applicable deadlines.
  3. Review and file. Confirm the figures and arrange any tax payment required. Keep submission records and supporting documents together.

02 / UNDERSTAND YOUR OBLIGATIONS

China tax, explained clearly.

Your company’s tax treatment depends on its activities, taxpayer status, location and eligibility for relief. Foreign ownership alone does not determine the tax rate. The overview below is a starting point for a company-specific discussion.

Tax or requirementWhat business owners should know
Corporate Income Tax (CIT)The standard rate is 25% of taxable profit, not total sales. Accounting profit may need tax adjustments. STA: corporate income tax ↗
Small, low-profit enterprise reliefQualifying enterprises can have an effective 5% CIT burden through 31 December 2027. Conditions include annual taxable income no more than RMB3 million, no more than 300 employees, assets no more than RMB50 million and an eligible business sector. This is not an automatic rate for every small company. STA: eligibility and relief ↗
Value-Added Tax (VAT)Under the VAT Law effective in 2026, principal rates are 13%, 9% and 6%, depending on the transaction. General taxpayers normally calculate output VAT less eligible input VAT. Simplified taxation follows different rules. MOF: VAT Law ↗
Small-scale VAT reliefFor 2026–2027, the exemption thresholds are RMB100,000 monthly or RMB300,000 quarterly, with conditions. Eligible transactions otherwise subject to the 3% collection rate may qualify for 1%; specified property and land transactions are excluded. Invoice type and the nature of sales matter. MOF: 2026 VAT policy ↗
Other obligationsDepending on your activities, payroll withholding, social insurance, stamp duty and applicable surcharges may also need attention. These are separate from CIT and require an assessment of your actual business.

Monthly does not mean every tax is monthly

Filing periods can be monthly, quarterly or annual. CIT advance payments are generally monthly or quarterly, with an annual reconciliation within five months of the year end—normally by 31 May for a calendar-year company. Holiday adjustments can change specific deadlines.

Official CIT filing guidance ↗

No revenue? Keep your compliance active.

An inactive or newly incorporated company may still have bookkeeping, reporting and tax filing obligations. A zero declaration must reflect the facts; it is not a substitute for checking transactions, expenses and registrations. Tell us about changes in business activity promptly.

Good records make everything easier

Keep company and personal finances separate. Match payments to genuine contracts and supporting invoices, including compliant fapiao where required. Retain bank statements, expense documentation and employee records. A bank receipt alone does not establish whether an expense is deductible or input VAT can be credited.

Before hiring, importing, exporting, invoicing a new activity or paying an overseas supplier, discuss the accounting and tax consequences. It is easier to prepare the right documents at the start than reconstruct them later.

03 / MOVING PROFITS OVERSEAS

Your profits. A documented route home.

China’s Foreign Investment Law permits lawful outward transfers of foreign investors’ profits and other specified investment proceeds in RMB or foreign currency. A transfer still needs the correct corporate, tax and bank documentation. Foreign Investment Law, Article 21 ↗

Profit is not the same as cash in the bank

A dividend must be supported by distributable profits after the relevant tax, prior losses and required reserves have been addressed. A large account balance may include capital, loans or customer advances. Those amounts are not automatically available to distribute as profit.

  1. Establish the available profit. Reconcile the accounts, tax position, accumulated losses and reserve requirements; prepare the financial statements and audit documents required for the remittance.
  2. Approve the distribution. Prepare the appropriate shareholder or board resolution and confirm the recipient’s identity and shareholding.
  3. Check withholding and treaty eligibility. Determine the shareholder’s tax status, complete required tax steps and retain supporting evidence.
  4. Submit to the bank. Provide the resolution, financial and tax documents and payment application. The bank reviews the transaction and may request further information.

Document requirements vary by transaction and bank. SAFE: profit remittance requirements ↗

Who receives the dividend matters

A qualifying non-resident corporate shareholder commonly faces a domestic 10% withholding rate on China-source dividends, subject to the applicable rules and any treaty relief. Foreign individual shareholders are a different case: from 1 September 2026, dividends from foreign-invested enterprises are subject to 20% individual income tax under the updated policy, subject to applicable treaty treatment. The former general exemption should not be assumed.

An illustration in RMB

For an approved RMB100,000 dividend, after company-level tax and distribution requirements have already been addressed:

  • At 10% withholding: RMB10,000 tax; RMB90,000 remaining.
  • At 20% withholding: RMB20,000 tax; RMB80,000 remaining.

Illustrative only, before bank charges and any recipient-country tax. Treaty relief, shareholder status and other facts can change the result.

Capital and loans follow different procedures

Returning registered capital, repaying a shareholder loan and paying a genuine service or royalty fee are different transactions with their own documentation and tax treatment. They should not be relabelled as dividends or used to bypass the proper process. We can review your accounting records and clarify the support needed before you approach the bank; any specialist remittance work is separately scoped.
